The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) is to stage a protest in Stratford following the death last month of a young man who was hit by a lorry.
The incident happened where Carpenters Road meets the High Street - one of a cluster of junctions rated among the most dangerous for cyclists in Newham.
LCC maintains that the cluster has been known for decades to be inadequately designed for riders using Cycleway 2 - one of the first protected cycle tracks in London.
The group is calling on residents to join them for a protest ride at 6.30pm on 24 February at the junction of the Greenway and the High Street.
Campaigners are calling on Transport for London (TfL) and Newham Council to improve dangerous junctions so that no-one has to risk their life cycling through the area.
An LCC spokesperson said: “When the Mayor and TfL make 'improvements', they are failing to make junctions truly safer for people walking and cycling.
"So we’re demanding not just that the Mayor and TfL get back on track on junctions, but also that they take rapid and bold action here in Stratford.”
A Newham Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of the cyclist fatality at the High Street and Carpenters Road junction, and we extend our deepest condolences to the cyclist's family and friends.
“We are working closely with our partners at TfL to identify and introduce safety improvements at this junction.
“The plans would see a bus priority scheme put in place along the High Street as well as an improved dedicated cycleway along its entire length.
“We are also looking at proposals that will prioritise bicycles at this junction allowing cyclists to move forward in advance of turning vehicles.”
TfL has not responded to a request for comment.
