The V&A has now released details of what visitors can expect when its new East Storehouse site opens in Stratford this coming May (2025).

The free cultural centre in Queen Elizabeth Park, the former Olympic venue, will eventually contain over half a million works, including The Glastonbury Festival Archive along with costumes of PJ Harvey and Elton John, vintage football shirts, Dior and Schiaparelli haute couture, Roman frescos and Samurai swords.

Special emphasis will be given to items with an East London connection, including those by fashion designer Imane Ayissi, photographer Mariette Pathy Allen and artists Xanthe Somers and Sanaa Gateja.

The public will be able to enjoy and ‘experiential installations’ together with live events and workshops. There will also be spaces for people to congregate and socialise in the building.

And in a world-first, the ‘Order an Object’ facility will enable anyone can book to see any object they like, seven-days a week.

The building will span 16,000 square metres over four levels.

A schools programme has already engaged with over 30,000 local pupils, and the site will create over 70 new jobs for those living in the four Olympic boroughs.
